COMMUNICATION [2]

Last edition we defined communication as the act of letting people know and to come to mutual understanding with one. This edition we look at some things that should pay attention to while communicating with people among other things. Please Make Me Feel Important. It is said figuratively that everyone is born with a sign on his forehead saying: Please make me feel important!

This was the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him]s way. He used to address everyone, fully turning his body towards the people he was addressing, and making even children feel important and responsible like adults. People hate being ignored or neglected.

Every time they communicate they convey an unspoken message: Please validate me! Please approve of my presence. Do not pass me by unnoticed. Anytime they do not get responses to their letters or telephone messages, you are in effect discounting them and telling them: You do not exist! 

Tips On Communicating

1. Powerful communication comes from inner strength. Do not try to seek power over people.

2. Spend each break period in a meeting with someone different. Plan to share meals with others. You will establish meaningful relationships with everybody in a short time.

3. Dont wait for latecomers in a meeting. If you do, you are teaching them that being late is okay and also punishing those who are punctual.

4. Paraphrase the message you hear to ensure proper transmission and reception:

5. Remember that the more we understand, the more we manage. The less we understand, the more we manipulate!

6. When it comes to interpretation, the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] teaches us to find over seventy excuses for the bad behaviour of others. By this, we will be safe from offending or having ill-feelings against _ Adapted from Training guide for muslim Workers.
