The necessary end to every creature of Allaah is death. It is something that no one can deny; even those who claim that they do not believe in Allaah. As Muslims, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] gave us guidance concerning what we should do and the rewards that are in inherent in participating in the funeral of our fellow Muslims.
Let us see some them;
The right of your brother
Narrated AI Bara bin Azib: Allaah's Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] ordered us to do seven things and forbade us to do other seven. He ordered us: to follow the funeral procession, to visit the sick, to accept invitations, to help the oppressed, to fulfill the oaths, to return the greeting and to reply to the sneezer (saying, "May Allaah be merciful on you," provided the sneezer says, "All the praises are for Allaah,"). He forbade us to use silver utensils and dishes and to wear golden rings, silk (clothes), Dibaj (pure silk cloth), Qissi and Istabraq (two kinds of silk cloths).
Reminder of the Hereafter
Abu Said reported that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], said "Visit the sick, and follow the funeral procession, for it will (help) remind you of the Hereafter." [Ahmad]
Huge reward
Narrated Abu Huraira, Allaah's Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said,
"(A believer) who accompanies the funeral procession of a Muslim Out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allahs reward and remains with it till the funeral prayer is offered and the burial rites are over, he will return with a reward of two Qirats. Each Qirat is like the size of the (Mount) Uhud. He who offers the funeral prayer only and returns before the burial, will return with the reward of one Qirat only."[Bukhaari]
