SALAT WATCH: CONCLUDING THE SALAT (3)

"It (the Salaat) is exited (terminated) by the tasleem "

said the Prophet (pBUH). The tasleem is 'the act of sending the salutation of peace'. It indicates that the salaat is therefore concluded. The Prophet (PBUH) concluded his obligatory and

supererogatory salaat by "saluting to his right saying: As-salaam alaykum Warahmatullah (peace and Allah's Mercy be on you) such that the whiteness  of his right check became visible and on his left too saying: As-salaam alaykum wa rah-matullah (peace and Allah's Merch be on you) till the whiteness of his left cheek became visible." (Abu Dawud & Nasai)

Sometimes however, he would add: Wabarakaatuhu (and His blessings be unto you) to the greeting on the right. And he (PBUH) would sometimes shorten the greeting on his left to: As-Salaam 'Alaykum (peace be on you). (Nasai and Ahmad),

There is evidence too that the Prophet (PBUH) exceptionally would

"salute just once only (in front of his face, turning to his right side a bit or a little)". (Bayhaqi)

It is discouraged to move the hands right and left in line or a long with the tasleem. When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saw people doing this, he said:

"What is the matter with you, gesturing with your hands as if they are the tails of wild horses?! When one of you salutes, it is enough for each of you to place his hand on his thigh, and then salute his brothers who are on his right and left." (Muslim & Tabaraani)
