,,,,Imagine the scenario. A thief is caught in the marketplace. Rather than show penitence, he indignantly proclaims that he cannot be punished for his actions because criminality is in his genes; that it is a natural condition with which he was born, about which he can do nothing, and that the state should pass a law allowing him to steal at will. What would you say to this argument? A few weeks ago, the chambers of Nigerian House of Representatives played host to a peculiar band of activists.
Calling themselves by the intriguing name of "the queer alliance", the group sought to lobby the House against the passage of a proposed law that would criminalize homosexuality and forbid same-sex "marriages" in Nigeria. As justification, they claimed that people with their condition have a constitutional right to be treated equally with normal people, and that in any case, the society should simply accept them as they were, since homosexuality is (according to them) a natural condition which inheres in their genes something they could not help.
One was of course perplexed (as members of the House obviously also were, going by press reports) that not only would anyone in Nigeria be so brazen as to publicly admit to being a practitioner of this cursed act, but that they would even have the temerity to defend and justify (at a public forum), actions so vile that even animals do not practice it. (It turns out that somewhere in Lagos, they even have a church where they "worship" - not surprising since the issue of ordainment of homosexual clerics and bishops in churches has for a while taken on divisively huge dimensions in Christendom).
As for the queer people and their hosts, one wonders if anyone bothered to educate members of the House of Representatives that under Nigerian law, the practice they were being asked to recognize may amount to a felony, something to be punished by imprisonment for at least three years, and that by sitting through an open confession of criminality, they might unwittingly have compromised their positions. But, we digress. Of course, none of the self described queer peoples arguments is new. The last disingenuous leg (the its-in-ourgenesargument) has been successfully invoked as basis for the legalization of homosexuality in some states of the USA and Europe.
This is of course being followed up with legal recognition of "same-sex marriages". No wonder then, that all over the world, criminals now invoke that cowardly I-cant-help-it,-its-in my-geneslie to justify their actions. This lie has almost overtaken the the-devil-made me-do-itexculpatory ploy to escape liability for deliberate wrongs. It is now used to justify everything from alcoholism to murder, lying, adultery, even bedwetting! In our world, people seem to believe that they should be able to get away with anything if they can establish an apparent biological justification, no matter how tenuous. And since they will never lack unscrupulous lawyers to argue the point or mad scientists to "prove" it, it remains to be what next they will successfully justify as being "in their genes".
But when we think, if only briefly, about this argument, we would see why degeneration and corruption has spread so rampart, taking over our societies while honesty and good conduct are becoming increasingly endangered virtues. Western societies can accommodate this lie since their legal and social systems are based on a materialistic pivot which grants every individual the "freedom" and "liberty" to do anything, so long as they do not affect the material rights of other people. With this in mind, it is also not surprising that in most of western, democratic societies, the homosexual and lesbian rights lobby (the one they euphemistically call "gay rights" is now so powerful that men of power hardly dare raise their voice against any demand of the group. Most politicians in the west have such a morbid fear of being labeled "homophobe", that they will do anything to pacify people who, less than 20 years ago, were recognized as deviants and mentally unbalanced in these same societies.
It used to be that being labeled "anti-Semitic" was the only political death sentence which western politicians hardly ever recovered from. Anyone wondering why the state of Israel has become so powerful as to be able to get away with obvious war crimes committed in the face of CNN and other global television cameras only need to recall how aggressively politicians who spoke for the rights of people other than Jews were branded anti-Semites and hounded out of office. The success of that instrument of blackmail is further illustrated by the fact that the United States and several countries in Europe have pulled out of the proposed United Nations Conference on Racism - to protest the condemnation of Israel by the body! When we put these two developments - these two instruments of blackmail, homophobia and anti-Semitism -side-by-side, we can see the direction in which the "gay rights" lobby will drive society, if permitted standing room.
We should say, for the records that credible scholars have clarified that people with these tendencies are people nonetheless, who deserve help and psychological treatment for their deviance, and who may require love and compassion to help them straighten out their lives. No question about that. But we must resist, in our societies, any attempt to bring deviance into the mainstream of our lives or to cow the reasonable majority into abiding their odious lifestyle.
In our individual lives, we need to be particularly careful- about what we watch, who we associate with, and to what extent. Particularly with regard to our children, we need to be watchful, to see that evil is given its proper names, isolated and destroyed - whether open or latent. The majority cannot afford to be silent on this.
