After Ramadan, what next? Well to tell you the truth we at DCL went straight to bed to take a deserved rest. Producing two collectors items in Ramadan (Ramadan Digest and Ramadan Digest Supplement) sapped the last ounces of strength out of us all. So, we took a break, but apparently far too long. As it is with us, so it probably was for several Muslims out there. After Ramadan, we all relaxed from the day of Eid. To do the sittah Shawwal becomes a great task, if it ever gets done.
After Ramadan, the usual things is for most of us to relax and let go. The discipline, the self-restraint, the steadfastness, the iman yakeen (faith with certainty) and the taqwah (piety) that we all have acquired in the blessed month of fasting are lost very rapidly in our bid to join the multitude of men, who did not partake in the joyous act of obedience called sawn (fasting). Should it always be like this? Should we always slip into the great depth of depravity of the magnitude of men, after we have attained the peak of piety in Ramadan? Allah says:
“We have indeed created man in the best of moulds. Then do we abase him (to be) the lowest of the low except such as believe and do righteous deeds for they shall have a reward unfailing.” (Q95:4-6)
This ever-occurring puzzle is the subject of this Shawwal edition of your lovely companion in the deen of Allah- the Deen Digest. All praise is due to Allah in the end as it was His due in the beginning. May His peace, blessing and mercy continue to be on Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) and his followers till the end of time. (Amin)
