From Abu Hurayrah [RA] who said that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: Indeed Allaah is gentle and loves gentleness, and gives due to gentleness that which He does not give out of harshness. [Ibn Majah] So through gentleness, hearts become united in friendship, love and good becomes widespread. Whereas through its opposite ill-feelings and distrust prevails and people forsake one another. Let us see some examples of how the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] dealt with the people; Don’t Interrupt Him From Anas (RA) bin Malik: We were in the Masjid with the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] when a desert Arab and stood up and began to urinate in the masjid. The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said; Stop! Stop! What is this! But the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: Don’t interrupt him; leave him alone! So they left him alone and when he had finished urinating the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] called him and said to him: These masaajid are not places meant for urine and filth, rather they are only meant for the remembrance of Allaah, prayer, and the recitation of the Quran. Or he said something to that effect. He [the narrator of the hadith] said: Then he [the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]] ordered a man from amongst the people and he brought a bucket of water and poured it over the urine [Sharhun- Nawwawi ala Saheeh Muslim ]
We can see how the Prophet of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) dealt gently and kindly with the behavior of this man which ordinarily would have attracted anger of any other person. What was the result of this? He (the desert Arab) said: May my mother and my father be ransomed [i.e. for the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]]. He did not rebuke me nor did he revile or abuse me [rather he only] said; This Masjid is not to be urinated in, it was built for the remembrance of Allaah and prayer. Forgive Me &Muhammad In the narration of Ibn Majah; Abu Hurayrah added that the man was so pleased with the Messenger of Allaah that he said 0 AIlaah forgive me and Muhammad and do not forgive any other person except the two of us. So the Prophet [[peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] laughed and said you have limited that which Allaah has made vast. So from this example that we have cited we could see how behavior of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]" attracted the desert Arab to him and how endearing Islam would be to his heart as a result of that. We bring some more examples with regards to this topic next edition insha Allaah.
