Dates of Significance in Islam

5AH (627CE)

The Battle of The Trench Abu Sufyan, who was an arch-enemy of Islam, led a large force of 10,000 men and besieged Madinah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) under the advice of one of his Companions, Salman al-Farsi (RA), dug a ditch or trench around Madinah so that the Makkan army wouldnt get into the town. After waiting and trying for a forthnight without any success, the Makkan army withdrew.

6AH(628CE)

The Treaty of Hudaybiya The Prophet (peace be upon him) led a group of about 1400 men, intending to perform a pilgrimage to Makkah, but was prevented from doing so. After some negotiations, a pact was drawn up at Hudaybiya, a place some ten miles west of the town. Although some of the leading Muslims were not satisfied with the final outcome, Muhammad (peace be upon him) got a lot of concessions from the Makkans regarding the right for them to make the pilgrimage in the following year.

A significant consequence of the Prophets (peace be upon him) increasing prestige at tills point in time was the conversion of Khalid Ibn Walid and Amr Ibn al-As (RA), who later proved themselves to be great military commanders of the Muslims.
