Power outages are very common in the country these days. It sometimes gets so bad that when we enjoy electricity supply for a number of hours, we start getting scared that "NEPA" may soon decide to "seize the light" for many hours or days as punishment! Truly, there are so many things we can do with electricity, but most of us dread power failure especially at night when all is normally dark!
Most times the scariest part is when the lights suddenly go out at night and we have to move about in the dark to get a source of light. This leaves an eerie sensation crawling down our spines simply because of the helplessness that we feel not seeing what is just in front of us! It is at times like this that we appreciate (especially the adults) the value of the eyes that Allaah has given to us.
Let's be honest, what would we do if Allaah in His Majesty has created us without eyes? We would definitely not kill ourselves knowing that whoever commits suicide would continue killing himself over and over on Yaomul-Qiyaam (the Day of Judgement) in the Hell Fire. In the end, we would accept it as Qadar of Allaah (Destiny) after all; it would not mean that Allaah does not love us. It is only at this time that we would appreciate the use of our eyes!
One of the many favours of Allaah onus is the sight that He gave us. As Muslims, our primary responsibility is to worship Allaah. He says in the Quran:
"And I (Allaah) created not the Jinns and Humans except that they should worship me (alone)."(Q 51:56).
For this reason, we most, ensure that our eyes as well as other parts of our body are devoted to the worship of Allaah.
A lot of times, we use our eyes in ways that are not pleasing to Allaah. We watch movies that are indecent, look at forbidden things and at times copy our mates during examinations even though we know that this is wrong. Even when we are corrected, we refuse to listen and go deeper into these sins.
Have you ever taken a minute to think that it would be better to have been born blind or to have lost your sight at a tender age than to use it in disobedience to Allaah?! At least that would save you from having to account for all the horrible things that they have seen.
How much do you even appreciate what Allaah has done for you by giving you eyes that function? You probably are one of those who use eye-glasses either to aid to you sight or to add to your looks. Good, but would you rather take the place of those who wear those glasses but see nothing because they are blind? A lot of blind people are on our streets these days that do not have half of what you have because they are blind. This does not stop them from observing their Salaah and being grateful to Allaah. Some other sin this position have used it as an opportunity to earn Allaah's favour. A good example of such is Sheikh Ibn Baz who was blind since his youth but still memorized, taught lots of Hadeeth and was a pillar of knowledge in this age.
It's better to retrace your steps now and be more grateful to Allaah who has given you the gift of sight as well as so many other things. Use them to earn only His pleasure so that they do not testify against you in the end. Allaah says:
" And follow not (O man, i.e., say not or do not witness) that of which you have no knowledge. Verily!, The hearing and the sight and the heart of each of those one will be questioned." (Q 17:36).
Whenever you open your eyes and can see all that is around; remember to be grateful because it is AFAVOUR FROM ALLAAH!
"Which is it of the favours of your Lord that you deny?"(Soorah Ar-Rahman 55)
