The sun shone very brightly yesterday!, so what is the news about that?, hat? You may be wondering. Well, we have been experiencing rainfall almost every day for a while now. I personally do not mind this because at least were able to use the rain water since the Water Corporation has disappointed us as usual. The issue however is that because of the rains, all the clothes we washed for days have remained wet and we have been taking them out and returning them inside wet whenever the rains start again.
This process can be very frustrating especially when you need some of the wet clothes or you have no clean and dry clothes left and have to use your electric fan or electric iron to dry the wet ones! You can then imagine my joy when I saw the sun shining brightly. I couldn't wait to get home in the evening to pack my crisply dry clothes off the lines, It suddenly occurred to me that the sun normally shines every day during the dry season and we do not seem to take much notice of it except for the times when we complain that it is too hot or that it is scorching us.
We do not fully appreciate the fact that we can spread clothes and have them dry within a few hours when the sun shines. You know, some people actually pay a lot of money to buy specially made cloth-dryers.
Think about this: the sun is Allaah's own special and natural dryer that He has bIessed us with. Think of how much you save buy making use of this gift instead of buying a dryer! Has it ever occurred to you that in His own special way, Allaah also blesses us with the sun to keep us warm? If not, been outside on a very cold rainy day or on a harmattan morning will convince you! At least on sunny days, you do not have to wear extra clothes to keep you warm. The sun is wonderful. It provides brightness and allows us to see during the day. He says:
"And by the sun and its brightness." [Q91:1]
Imagine how life would be if there was no sun! We would have to spend all the days in the darkness! Even the plants need the sun to grow.
The sun also helps our body to grow. Being exposed to healthy doses of sunlight helps us to develop strong bones. No doubt, Allaah has bestowed us with this 'huge ball of fire' to ease our tasks and as a reminder for us if only we can think (reflect). Allaah tells us in the Quran:
"It is He Who made the sun a shining thing and the moon as a light and measured out its (their) stages, that you might know the number of years and the reckoning. Allaah did not create this but in truth. He explains the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses lessons, signs, revelations e.t.c) in detail for People who have knowledge." [Q10:5].
The next time the sun shines down on you and it feels hot and burning, remember to say Alhamdulillah to Allaah for blessing us with the sun. I hope that will make You feel better!. “Which of the favours of your Lord do you deny?"
