That people hold conflicting views regarding particular issues is common. The variation in intellectual capabilities, individual orientation and disposition are known causes of such. Yet, the Qur’aan and Sunnah dispraise irreconcilable difference of opinion in the matters of the Deen and proffer means out of such quagmine whenever it arises. Allaah-the most High-says:
“O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.” (Q4[Nisaa]:59).
The point here is that: Allaah-the most High-commands that the Muslims refer their differences to Him and His Messenger-the Qur’aan and Sunnah and makes that a condition and proof for their true belief in Him and Last Day.
He-the most High-also said:
“But no, by your Lord, they can have no faith, until they make you (O Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wa sallam)) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.” (Q4[Nisaa]:65).
So, the matters of the deen-Islam, are not from that about which just anyone feels he has ‘a right’ to an opinion whether in conformity with the dictates of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah or not!! And in the application of the tests of the Qur’aan and Sunnah to the matters that ensue, the appropriate texts must be employed such that in the end, no true believer should find resistance against the rulings of the Sharee’ah!! This is true submission to Allaah-Islam.
