Yes, l could remember when I woke up very early in the morning that it was a visiting day .it was the first Saturday of the month, the first visiting day of the term February 2 2002. I heard the chirping of the birds as I hurried to the masjid to say my salaah, I thought of what happened yesterday, Friday, after our last period in class. The time was about 12:lO pm. As we approached the admin block, we saw students and staff alike running after a man. The whole school was filled with yells and noise.
I tried to join the crowd but my tiredness won't let me. It was 12: IO pm About 15min after the man was in the middle of the crowd, weeping sorrowfully from the depths of his heart. His body was filled with bruises and he was pushed further to the school gate. "Barawo" (he is a thief), the crowd shouted. What made me very sad was that by this time he was naked and some Christian boys were laughing at the fact that he was a Muslim. He was taken out of the gate and was eventually burnt. Yes, burnt completely and the students rushed out to see him burn to ashes. It was like a dream to me. My mind continued to ponder on it after subhi. This very Saturday, there were different stories but what echoed in my mind was what shari'ah will offer as judgement .
Definitely, he would not have been burnt or even killed. On the following Sunday, during the MSS meeting, the patron, who is the chief security and the disciplinary master of the school told us the whole story. His father had died several years ago leaving behind a wife and several kids. Unfortunately; he got addicted to hard drugs and had started becoming mentally unfit.
He had brought several problems to the late fathers family, and though they were rich his mother was fed up with his behaviour and had earlier cursed him by saying. "if Allaah can take him away, I would be happy." Unfortunately, that particular day, he stole a neighbours car and was pursued by the owner and other neighbours. As he was speeding away from the crime scene, he accidentally killed four people and these people were rushed to the hospital. When he got to our school gate. he parked the car and jumped into the school. The rest is the story above. My fellow brothers and sisters stay away from drugs and don't give your parents problems.
